John,
As other nations reopen after successfully flattening the curve, our country’s coronavirus cases are surpassing our previous peak and show no signs of stopping.
The United States has now lost more than 130,000 to the COVID-19 virus, with more than 50,000 new, confirmed cases per day being identified around the country. If there was any doubt, this pandemic is far from over, not even close, and we must do more to stop the spread of this deadly disease and save lives.
Much of what we need to do to fight this virus is difficult and expensive, but one of the most effective steps we can take is simple and cheap. I just introduced a bill to help more Americans follow the advice of experts and stop the spread by wearing masks.
The Masks Work Act would provide free cloth masks to anyone who requests one delivered by the postal service, create a public service announcement to inform Americans about the importance of wearing masks, and continue research into mask efficacy.
Masks should not and cannot be a partisan issue. Although tragically belated, even Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell are now finally calling on people to wear masks, with mask requirements going into effect in states like Texas as the virus continues to spread rapidly there.
The science speaks for itself: masks work, and it’s time we take action to ensure every American has access to one and the information needed to stay safe and stop the spread of this virus. If you agree, sign on to my bill as a citizen co-sponsor now.
It will take a united effort to stop this pandemic in its tracks, and this bill to provide masks and spread the word will help improve our response and save lives. Together, we can do this.
Thanks,
Adam
