John, we know that we have a winning movement — and that is exactly why our organization is facing direct attacks from the highest halls of power right now.

Celebrating 20 Years Of Power: A Message From Leadership | Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director

Make A Gift To Mark 20 Years Of Power

John,

Color Of Change was founded this week in 2005, just three weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit and the Bush administration’s failed response shocked the nation. Katrina made it profoundly clear that no one in power was nervous about disappointing Black people. Not the government, corporations, or the media.

There were no consequences for hurting Black communities, and we needed to mobilize a movement to change that — to turn awareness into action and create the infrastructure to make our leaders nervous. We started with a single email to 1,000 folks asking them to pledge to make sure all Americans are represented, served and protected, regardless of race or class.

Since then, we’ve built a force of millions of Black folks and allies of every race as the nation’s largest online racial justice organization and taken on some of the most powerful corporations and institutions in America — and won.

Two decades later, our ongoing fight to build real power for Black people could not be more critical, as we face the harms of a neo-segregationist movement spearheaded by the Trump administration that is determined to roll back decades of progress and protections. So John, in recognition of 20 years of Color Of Change, will you join us in recommitting to the urgent struggle to make justice real for us all and make a gift towards our $120,000 anniversary fundraising goal to power our movement?

For two decades, Color Of Change has stood at the center of the fight for justice, dignity, opportunity, and liberation for Black people and communities. We’ve fought to transform criminal justice policy, expand economic opportunity, and build lasting political power for Black people.

With every campaign, we’re working to create a more human, less hostile world for Black people in America — from our work to fight back against predatory tax companies, to our campaigns to reign in the unchecked power of Big Tech and to combat neo-segregationists who aim to overturn our nation’s bedrock civil rights laws.

John, we know that we have a winning movementand that is exactly why our organization is facing direct attacks from the highest halls of power right now. The Trump administration and its allies are targeting Black Americans and the infrastructure of our racial justice movement not because they see us as weak — but precisely because they know just how powerful we are, and they are desperately trying to hold on to the status quo that our work disrupts.

We are ready to write the next 20 years of Color Of Change’s story, but it will take major resources to meet this challenging moment in our history, and we can’t do it without the support of folks like you. We don't take any money from lobbyists or giant corporations that don't share our values.

Small-dollar grassroots contributions help sustain our work to go toe-to-toe with the well-funded forces that are attacking our fundamental rights and targeting the very foundations of our democracy. We won’t stop until justice is real — John, will you make a contribution of $20 or more to help us usher in the next chapter of our movement’s story to demand safety, dignity, and power for us all?

We know change doesn’t just happen – it’s won when we come together to organize and win.

And we know that we will always lose in the back rooms of politics, unless we have millions of people lined up at the front door. By channeling our collective energy, we have the power to help our communities and weaken the forces working against us.

With folks like you by our side, we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for our movement.

Thank you for your support.

Until Justice Is Real,

Portia Allen-Kyle
Interim Executive Director
