John,
As the government shutdown drags on, the White House is pushing an unprecedented assault on NASA and America’s leadership in science.
The Trump Administration has proposed a 25% cut to NASA and would cancel half the agency’s science efforts – the largest-scale attack on the agency in its history.
I’m not allowing this to fly under the radar. I was proud to serve NASA as Chief of Staff under President Obama. In my time there, we put aside petty politics for the good of our position in space and science – moving the country forward, united in our mission.
Rather than reaching higher, this administration is letting our leadership in space and science slip away.
These unprecedented attacks have already forced the departure of 4,000 senior employees. Not only would our space leadership be affected, the cuts would slash earth and weather science and harm our ability to track events including wildfires, putting American families at risk.
We must save NASA and continue investing in innovation, discovery, and our country’s future in space. I need you with me to make a stand for NASA and for science – will you add your name to my petition?
Thank you,
George
