John,
It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. I want to tell you why saving American democracy matters so much to me. If it matters to you as well, please consider supporting my reelection campaign.
I grew up in Prescott, one of the reddest parts of Arizona. My father was a founding member of the Sierra Club in Yavapai County. When I was little, I campaigned for Jimmy Carter. From seventh grade on, I was class president. Long story short, politics has been central to my life from the beginning.
I believed in the ideals of democracy: namely, that we can disagree but still respect the rule of law.
This belief led me to law school, my old teaching job at ASU, and my current job as the Attorney General of Arizona.
But the terrifying truth is that Donald Trump thinks the law is a weapon he can wield for his personal advantage, just like he did for decades before entering politics.
That’s why I’ve filed 26 lawsuits (and counting) against the Trump administration.
When Trump crosses the line, I drag him to court. When he endangers Arizona families, I stand up to him. When he tries to destroy democratic norms, I remind him that nobody is above the law.
If you also believe that nobody is above the law, can you help me keep defending democracy in Arizona (and beyond)?
While it will take time to reverse the countless harms caused by this administration, the best thing we can do right now is limit further damage.
Thanks for having my back,
Kris
