After two years of relentless bombardment and humanitarian collapse, the
announcement of a ceasefire brings a desperately needed moment of respite
in Gaza.
We welcome any step that opens the door to increased humanitarian access
in Gaza and the release of all hostages after two years of captivity. And
we call on all parties to ensure this ceasefire holds and prevent any
return to the violence that has caused unimaginable loss and suffering for
two years.
The ceasefire is a vital first step, but there is still a mountain to
climb. Now, we must urgently surge the immediate, consistent, and safe
delivery of life-saving aid: clean water, medicine, nutritious food, and a
full re-opening of commercial supplies and cash assistance to rebuild a
sense of normalcy. This is a chance for people who have been forced into
the most desperate conditions and circumstances to stabilize, grieve, and
reconnect with their communities.
Your donation right now can help our teams be ready to ramp up our
response and deliver critical support as soon as aid corridors are open.

A Mercy Corps colleague inside Gaza shared their account of the reaction
to the ceasefire announcement:
"I saw how joyful that moment was for the children in front of my
displacement site. I was happier when my children joined them to
celebrate that moment that we have been waiting for a long time — the
kids were chanting, clapping their hands, and laughing out loudly! It
was really a moment of relief for us as adults as well. We all have been
through so much devastation and struggle during the last two years of
war. Finally, the moment has come to feel that we are going to be safe
again."
To make sure of that, humanitarian organizations must have unfettered
access, guarantees of safety for aid workers, predictable and sustained
entry points for supplies, and functioning communication and transport
networks to reach people in need.
Mercy Corps has lifesaving assistance for over 160,000 people at the
crossing ready to deliver as soon as borders open and restrictive
permissions are loosened for all humanitarian actors to be allowed to
deliver vital aid. Your support right now can help us be ready to reach
even more people in the vital weeks ahead.
This is a moment of opportunity to counter the devastating impacts of
famine and displacement as well as help restore essential services,
rebuild schools, hospitals, and key infrastructure across Gaza.

The Mercy Corps team
