John, we’ll get right to it.
The tide is changing.
Kevin Stitt, the Republican Governor of Oklahoma and chair of the bipartisan National Governors Association, just came out against Donald Trump’s deployment of the Texas National Guard (with Greg Abbott’s full support) to Illinois and beyond.
At least one Republican governor sees these deployments for what they are: An attack on the states' rights many Republicans hold so dearly.
And it’s important to call this what it is: Brave.
It is brave that a prominent, elected Republican in 2025 will speak publicly against Trump, and bravery is contagious. We don’t have to agree with Governor Stitt on everything, but on this, we’re glad to find common ground.
We’ve been fighting this lonely battle all year. First, warning that these deployments were coming. Then, preparing elected leaders in states at highest risk of Trump’s wrath. And now, raising hell against them.
It’s having an impact — and now is not the time to let up.
