Hey John,
If we don’t change our food system now, we could find ourselves with a new, highly lethal, rapidly moving pandemic that could kill millions of people. That is why we need to take action and demand San Francisco: Divest from Animal Agriculture. Join us this afternoon, July 7th, 1 PM at the San Francisco City Hall!
During this action we will mourn the animals who have been killed during the pandemic, we will tell their stories, and raise awareness about our campaign. We know this is an unusual protest. While we’d like to be sheltering in place, staying home and staying safe, we feel that it’s necessary to come out in person to communicate the urgency of this issue. For everyone attending in person, we will maintain social distance of ten feet in between people. We also ask that everyone showers and wears freshly laundered clothes. Please bring a mask and keep it on at all times, as this is mandatory in San Francisco. Be sure to carefully read and follow the safety and health protocols detailed on the event page.

Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Saturday, July 11th, 11 AM: Online Assembly: Why Animals Need Us To Confront Racism - The Movement for Black Lives has successfully forced the United States (and world) to reckon with its pervasive racism. Yet even the animal and environmental activists most supportive of #BlackLivesMatter would be surprised to hear that racism is the greatest threat to their own movements. That is the dire warning political researcher Ian Haney López has for us. In his latest book Merge Left, Haney López shows how greedy economic elites weaponize racial resentment to stay in power and maximize their own profits. These elites prevent the government from taking action on economic justice, the climate emergency, and animal rights even when these causes are supported by a supermajority of people in the US. Then they point the finger at working class immigrants and people of color, stirring up racial hysteria to keep voters distracted. But there is hope. Although conventional wisdom holds that talking about race is divisive, Ian presents a new way to build progressive narratives which appeal equally to white, Black, and brown people living in the US, without compromising on truth-telling. Join the Animal Liberation Online Assembly, an ongoing virtual gathering of animal rights activists, to learn how we can incorporate this vital truth into our message of animal liberation. You will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Sunday, July 12th, 1:30 PM: Making Effective Memes: The Language of Virality - Join us in at this online training where Eva Hamer will be discussing how memes can used as an effective tool as we fight for social justice. We'll use viral meme forms to make memes for the animal rights movement and share resources to make memes with nothing but a smartphone! The event page will be updated with Zoom link details closer to the date.
