Rebels from different Latin American XR Groups sharing their story
Dear Rebel John,
This is Rebel Belen from XR Warmi, Bolivia - speaking to you from the Amazon. Alongside Diego from XR Peru, Flor from Argentina, Amparo from Ecuador, Alvaro from Colombia, Dioni from Paraguay and thousands of rebels from across Latin America,
In less than one month, governments and industrialists from all over the world will once again meet in Brazil for COP30. Building upon the last 30 years of failed promises, they will once again get cozy with agri-businesses and fossil fuel lobbyists and rejoice in the continued the destruction of our forests, ravaging of our lands, poisoning of our food and water, and forced displacement of our Indigenous sisters and brothers.
But we will not simply stand by.
In the build up to and during the COP, we are mobilizing across more than 25 chapters in 10 countries to make our message clear:
We don’t negotiate our future. No more extractivism in our territories!
An XR Rally in Bolivia led by Indigenous community leaders
Listen to Rebel Diego, reporting from the Amazon, talk about the extent of deforestation carried out by illegal and state sanctioned mining companies, to rebels from Argentina bearing testimony to the damage done to their drinking water, full of prohibited chemicals, by fracking, and to Rebel Dioni Gomez sharing the multi-faceted destruction of his ancestral lands brought about by agribusinesses planting transgenic soya.
We have already started implementing the first phase of our plan to undertake simultaneous actions in 30 cities across the continent - cultural and artistic, inspired by Indigenous wisdom. From organizing festive street blockades to projecting resistance messages onto government buildings, and from digital assemblies to flooding the media with articles - we plan to reach millions.
We have already raised a third of our target, and we need you to stand with us.
We know our strategy will work - because this campaign is the culmination of two years of consistent rebellion building across Latin America. At this moment we number in the thousands, and are:
Pan-Continental: Active presence in more than 10 Latin American countries
Embedded: Over 25 local groups with regular local presence
Growing: More than 100 actions carried out in 2024 and 2025
Intersectional: Relationships with over 30 Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities
Decentralized: Collective coordination structure with regional assemblies and local autonomy
Regenerative: Rooted in art, spirituality, ancestral wisdom, and civil disobedience
30 years on from the first COP, our planet is at an inflection point, but nowhere more so than on our continent.
COP30 in Brazil might be our last chance to show those in power that the Amazon has the power of millions behind it -
and that we will never back down.
With love and courage,
Caro, Diego, Flor, Amparo, Mingo, Alvaro, Dioni Gomez, Gabi, Juliana, Luke, Magali, Hector, Clari, Jose and Belen
