Last week, families in Chicago woke up to explosions in their apartment building — not from an unfortunate accident, but from ICE agents using flashbangs during a raid in South Shore.

Parents pulled from their homes. Children zip tied together. Whole communities terrorized.

This is what the Trump administration and his allies call “safety.” But there is nothing safe about militarized federal agents dragging families out of their apartments in the middle of the night.

Let’s be clear: these raids are not about protecting anyone.

They are about punishing our most vulnerable communities.

They are about targeting Democratic-led cities like Chicago.

They are about stoking fear to silence resistance to Trump’s authoritarian agenda.

That’s why on Sunday, I went to South Shore to stand with my colleagues Congressman Jackson and Congresswoman Kelly, demanding that ICE, DHS, & Kristi Noem be held accountable for terrorizing working families.

While people are struggling to afford rent, food, and healthcare, Republicans are spending billions to fund ICE’s war on our communities.

I will continue to say what must be said: Defund ICE. Redirect those resources to what families actually need — housing, healthcare, education, food, and safety rooted in dignity and justice.

We cannot allow flashbangs, deportations, and intimidation to become “normal” in Chicago, or anywhere in America.
