When it comes to yard waste, here are some environmentally responsible approaches to consider.   MULCH IT. Leave lawn mower clippings where they lie. COMPOST IT. Compost creates great nutrients for your lawn & garden. LEAVE IT. Rake up large piles, but leave a thin layer of leaves to help protect your lawn. BAG IT. If you must rake, bag your leaves. It's okay to leave up to 10 bags of leaves curbside with your household trash.  Remember: It's important to keep yard waste away from storm drains and culverts to prevent flooding and to allow rain and melted snow to flow freely into the stormwater system.   This month's StoryWalk celebrates the children's book, "Kende! Kende! Kende!" which is part of this year's Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival.   The City of Auburn and our friends at L-A Arts and the Auburn Public Library invite families to follow the Kende! Kende! Kende! multilingual StoryWalk along the Auburn Riverwalk. The last day to request an absentee ballot without special circumstances is October 30. Make sure you’re registered to vote and have a plan to vote, Auburn! To share your feedback, visit: [link removed]     The holidays are closing in on us and the City of Auburn is seeking the perfect Christmas tree! The ideal tree is located here in Auburn; an evergreen – a spruce or fir. It’s at least 25 feet tall; and relatively “accessible” (with no close power lines or other obstructions). The “winning” tree is removed and transported through the city by the Auburn Public Works Department and our friends at Cote Crane at no cost to the property owner. The tree is decorated with care by the team at Public Works and its lighting officially kicks off our holiday season. The tree remains at Festival Plaza right through to New Year’s for everyone to enjoy. Residents and property owners who want to help bring holiday cheer to our city are encouraged to nominate their big, beautiful tree! It would be the ultimate holiday gift to our community.
