San Diego families and businesses are already paying the price for Republicans’ misguided economic policies, and the government shutdown is only adding to the strain with each passing day.
Troops are working without pay, essential services like food assistance are delayed or paused, air travel operations and safety are being disrupted, and millions of Americans’ healthcare costs are about to go through the roof.
Our communities need solutions – now.
My fellow Democrats and I remain ready and willing to reach a bipartisan agreement to reopen the government, but my colleagues across the aisle refuse to come to the negotiating table.
And, what’s worse is that President Trump’s efforts to consolidate power in the executive branch are accelerating under the shutdown – just this week, we learned that the White House is threatening to withhold backpay from furloughed federal workers.
It’s time that Republicans stop playing political games and put the American people first.
