Just a few months ago, Texas passed new, gerrymandered maps eliminating Democratic seats in Congress, and set the stage for other Republican-led states to follow suit. If the courts uphold these new maps, Democratic seats across the country will become Republican strongholds in 2026 midterms, which means more harmful legislation will be passed, and a national abortion ban is all but inevitable. But California voters have a chance to fight back and even the playing field.
Proposition 50 is a ballot measure that, if passed, would allow the state to redraw its maps to increase Democratic seats in Congress, a direct way of combatting Republicans’ unprecedented antics.
