Donald Trump just baselessly called for Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago’s Mayor to be arrested for standing up to ICE and holding Trump accountable.

Think about that — a sitting president demanding the arrest of an elected governor for refusing to do his bidding.

Trump is escalating beyond politics. He’s doubling down on lawless intimidation, targeting governors and mayors who push back. This is a moment where democracy itself is on the line. This is what authoritarianism looks like.

And while he points fingers and spreads lies, the real danger is being manufactured at his behest. Instead of stopping the violence, Trump is trying to silence those who speak out against it.

But here’s the truth: He cannot silence Illinois. He cannot silence our fight for justice, compassion, and democracy.

As part of this administration, I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with Governor Pritzker through every attack on our values. And I will continue standing up to Trump’s abuse of power — in Illinois, and in Washington.
