Maybe it's a little too on the nose. But I think the bad national vibes are manifesting right here at OKDEMS HQ.
On Monday morning we lost power to about half of the office. If you hadn't heard, we're currently in a building with a warehouse and some other offices. And even when all of the lights are on - it's a little bleak.
We do what we can to make the space welcoming for volunteers, and we fill it with as much Democratic fun as we can. But ultimately, it isn't at all accessible to the voters we need to win over AND we don't have a single window. Our Operations Director Molly may or may not have mentioned this to you once or twice...
So on Monday, all of the overhead lights and the air conditioning went out. Unaffected were all of our outlets. We had lamps, the internet and our phones still worked.
We kept working.
We continued to support campaigns and Democratic door-knockers across the State. We held a weekly Comms call for County Parties to stay on top of messaging during the Shutdown. Central Committee held a virtual meeting.
AND a lot of you helped us call Oklahoma's Republican Congresspeople to demand they seat the House of Representatives newest Democrat Congresswoman-Elect Adelita Grijalva!
Our Data Director Josh plugged in a bunch of historical figures from 2021 and 2023 and is working up a snazzy update on how much bigger of a year 2025 has been for Democratic engagement -- stay tuned!
