Dear PPMW Supporter,

Over the last few months and weeks, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) and other Planned Parenthood providers across the nation have grappled with the unprecedented harm to patients posed by the “defund” Planned Parenthood law. This law aims to weaken Planned Parenthood by excluding us from the Medicaid program — at the expense of the patients and communities we proudly serve.

We know that you have likely seen confusing and conflicting information about how this “defund” law affects the care we provide. We hope that this message clarifies the status of Medicaid in each of our constituencies and serves to reassure you that at PPMW, your care remains our highest priority.

Washington, DC

• DC Medicaid and DC Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) coverage can by federal law no longer be accepted at PPMW health centers.

• PPMW is prioritizing the continuation of your care and will work with you to ensure you can still afford the services you need; we are offering discounted fees, and special funds may be available to support the costs of abortion care.

Northern Virginia

• Virginia Medicaid and Virginia Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) coverage can by federal law no longer be accepted at PPMW health centers.

• PPMW is prioritizing the continuation of your care and will work with you to ensure you can still afford the services you need; we are offering discounted fees, and special funds may be available to support the costs of abortion care.

Maryland

• At this time, there are no changes affecting the cost of care for patients who have used Maryland Medicaid or Maryland Managed Care Organization (MCO) for care in the past.

• We will keep you informed should any changes arise affecting the costs of your care.
