Team — in my debate last night with Jack Ciattarelli, this exchange was both shocking and yet not at all surprising. Jack was asked what grade he gives Trump for his second term so far. Jack’s response: “I’d certainly give the president an ‘A.’ I think he’s right about everything that he’s doing.” Everything. That. He’s. Doing.
Let’s be clear what Jack is saying here: Throwing hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans off Medicaid and driving up premiums for everyone else? In Jack’s book, that gets an "A." Freezing funding for the economically crucial Gateway Tunnel Project? Another "A." Weaponizing the government against political opponents and punishing free speech? Exactly what our country needs, according to Jack. You probably don’t need me to tell you that electing a blind Trump loyalist who aspires to govern our state the way Trump governs the country would be a disaster for New Jersey. But the stakes are even higher than that. This is the first major election since Trump started his second term. And if, after all these months of much cruelty and incompetence, New Jersey elects someone who openly bends the knee to Trump the way Jack does, it will send a terrible message to the country. And it will empower Trump to attack our Constitution and our communities even more viciously. If we win, then we send a very different message. We show the country that the people reject Donald Trump’s barrage of attacks on our freedoms and our livelihood, and we show what a better way forward looks like — one where we put what’s best for the people before what’s best for any politician or party.
Thank you for everything, Mikie |
