Friends,

I’m Jacqueline Saavedra, attorney and mother of two. For the last six years, I have been a proud board member and donor with the Latino Texas PAC.

When I first moved to Houston, I was excited to live in a city where Hispanic Americans account for 38% of the population. I felt our presence everywhere from the mercaditos that I would pass on my way to work to the networking events that I would go to afterwards. I was no longer the only Latina in the room, but it wasn’t long before I realized that we were still underrepresented in one of the most important places in Texas: elected office.

That’s why I was so moved to join the Latino Texas PAC, an organization focused on increasing Latino representation, holding officials accountable, and organizing our community to build real political power right here in the Greater Houston area.

In the years that I’ve served on the board, I’ve learned a few tough truths:
* Winning takes more than having the right experience.
* Campaigns cost so much more than people realize, especially to effectively reach and mobilize Latino voters.

It’s understandably difficult to motivate people who haven’t seen how good policy can impact their daily lives—like improving their schools or creating safer neighborhoods. So when a Latino candidate steps up to run, often against the odds, it takes enormous courage—and real, consistent support from people like me and you.

This month, we’re celebrating 10 years of that work, and I’d love for you to join us:

You will get to hear from our latest endorsed candidate, Alejandra Salinas (Houston City Council At-Large 4). A candidate with the right experience to ensure that our local government works equitably and protect Harris County elections from partisan interference.

And we’re excited to introduce you to leaders at the forefront of a historic court ruling that is paving the way for fairer school district elections right here in Spring Branch - where a majority of students are of Latino descent.

If you’re curious about volunteering, this is the perfect chance to meet our board and see how you can get involved. There is a place for you here.

And if you believe, like I do, that our community deserves to be represented in decision making that affects our lives, I hope you consider becoming a donor today.

Individually we are voices. Together as the Latino Texas PAC, we are a chorus that cannot be ignored.
