Over a week into a government shutdown with the potential to devastate our economy and harm millions of working families, the President of the United States is busy attacking Ilhan Omar once again.

Throughout this shutdown, Republicans have treated the American people like they can be lied to and tricked. They want to distract, deflect, and throw every falsehood they have at the wall to blame Democrats for Trump’s disastrous agenda and falling popularity. The American people know better.

Polls show that a vast majority of Americans understand that this is Donald Trump and the Republicans’ shutdown. They own it — and they own the skyrocketing cost of health care that will result if their budget passes without any negotiated changes.

But Trump is too busy playing dictator to see this crisis to a resolution. He’s sending troops into American cities. He’s letting ICE violate civil rights and attack US citizens. He’s even calling for the arrest of the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois.

This is how oligarchy works: Create chaos in the streets and dysfunction in our government while you slash benefits for working families and line your pockets and the pockets of your corrupt billionaire friends.

We don’t know how much longer this shutdown will last, but we are calling on everyone on this team and this movement to stand with Ilhan today as she holds the line for the American people and their ability to afford the quality health care they deserve.
