This morning, Donald Trump issued a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, calling for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to be arrested on the completely fabricated premise that they are “failing to protect ICE Officers.”

Trump is using ICE to terrorize Chicago and provoke civil unrest as pretense to pursue even more insidious aims—mass arrests of elected Democrats, military deployed in American cities, and invoking the Insurrection Act to declare martial law.

I stood with locked arms with my neighbors peacefully protesting outside of the Broadview ICE processing facility in Chicago when ICE violently attacked us completely unprovoked—using tear gas, pepper bullets, and even hitting myself and other protesters with a car.

I know from experience that ICE and this administration are the ones perpetrating violence on our streets. Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson don't need to protect ICE, they need to protect us from ICE—and they have done exactly that. Their leadership during Trump’s ICE invasion has been phenomenal.

My campaign has also been on the ground assisting in rapid response in our communities—standing side by side with families threatened by ICE, educating businesses and neighbors about their rights, and joining peaceful protests to push back against this encroaching fascism. 

When I get to Congress, I will continue defending my neighbors in the halls of Congress—bringing ICE agents involved in these attacks on our community to justice, pushing legislation to abolish ICE altogether, and putting an end to Trump's mass deportations and occupation of Chicago.
