Folks,

Washington Republicans shut down the government rather than protect health care for millions of Americans. Earlier this year, they took away tax credits that help 30,000 of our friends, neighbors, and community members afford health care — raising costs for ALL Nevadans. Now, they’re refusing to come back to D.C. to find a bipartisan deal to open the government and prevent health care costs from skyrocketing.

Here’s what that means for Nevada: the rising cost of health care, housing, and everyday essentials is squeezing families from Las Vegas to Henderson to Pahrump. In a matter of days, Nevadans will log in to buy their health insurance for next year. Thanks to reckless decisions in Washington and Donald Trump’s renewed push to repeal the Affordable Care Act, all Nevadans could see their overall health care costs — from premiums to prescriptions and doctor visits — skyrocket.

That’s unacceptable.

I’ve been clear from the start — we must protect these credits or the impacts will be devastating for southern Nevada. I’ve voted against partisan budgets that would cut critical programs or threaten the care Nevadans rely on. Washington needs fewer political stunts and more grown-ups willing to sit down and work together to get things done.

I know compromise isn’t always easy — but it’s possible. I’ve done it before, working across the aisle to expand mental health resources, support veterans, and invest in Nevada’s schools. What we need now is that same spirit of problem-solving to open our government and lower costs for families.

For Nevadans wondering what a shutdown means in practical terms:

* Social Security checks will still go out

* Medicare and Medicaid benefits will continue

* Veterans will still receive their benefits

* Essential border and airport operations will remain open

But as this drags on, the impact will grow — and it’s federal workers and Nevada families who will bear the burden.

That’s why I’ve chosen to withhold my salary during any shutdown . If Congress can’t do its basic job and pass a bipartisan budget, lawmakers shouldn’t be getting paid while hardworking Americans are left in limbo.

I ran for Congress to be a voice for all Nevadans — to make life a little easier for families working hard to get ahead. That’s what guides every decision I make, and that’s why I’ll keep fighting to protect affordable health care and bring a little more common sense to Washington.

Thank you for reading,

Susie
