John, a powerful media merger is in the works – and it could change who controls what millions of Americans see, hear, and believe.
Paramount-Skydance is trying to buy Warner Bros. Discovery – which were each already created by mergers of their own. This massive merger would put CNN, CBS News, HBO, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, TNT, HGTV, and more all under one corporate roof. [1]
These are some of the most powerful media and news brands in the country – and they’d all be controlled by one company.
If this goes through, it would be a disaster for our democracy. Fewer, bigger companies controlling our news means less diverse viewpoints, less accountability, and more room for political and corporate influence to shape what we see.
That’s why the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Department of Justice Antitrust Division must step in now to investigate this merger and stop it if it threatens media independence.

We’ve already seen what happens when power and politics pressure the media – from Trump trying to sue media outlets into submission [2], to Disney and ABC trying to silence voices like Jimmy Kimmel for daring to speak out [3], to Trump’s most recent threats against civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton’s show [4].
The public deserves real journalism – not a handful of billionaires and their megacorporations deciding what stories get told. Reporters must be free to investigate corruption and hold power accountable without fear of corporate or political backlash.
If regulators allow this deal, they must at least enforce strict rules to protect newsroom independence, prevent conflicts of interest, and keep local and investigative journalism alive.
Because when one company controls the news, the truth becomes whatever that company says it is.
That’s exactly the kind of power grab Trump and his allies want. We can’t let it happen.
