Property tax [ [link removed] ]

New Jersey offers property tax relief through ANCHOR and other programs, but the application process varies by age and circumstances.

*"For homeowners and renters 65+ or receiving Social Security disability:"* File Form PAS-1 (covering ANCHOR, Senior Freeze, and Stay NJ) by October 31. *Don't Get Scammed While Looking for Love [ [link removed] ]*

Scam text [ [link removed] ]

Scammers are creating fake dating profiles and using AI technology to disguise their voices and faces while targeting vulnerable populations. They build trust through fake romantic relationships before requesting money for "emergencies" or introducing victims to fraudulent investment opportunities. Recent cases include victims losing $35,000 to a fake refugee story, $250,000 to a cryptocurrency investment scam, and $50,000 to a fake business opportunity.

*New Jersey Issues Drought Watch [ [link removed] ]*

Water conservation [ [link removed] ]

New Jersey has experienced below-average precipitation during 10 of the last 12 months, with rainfall one to six inches below normal over the past 90 days. The state is now under Drought Watch.

Residents and businesses are urged to practice voluntary water conservation measures, including reducing indoor water use, delaying lawn reseeding until conditions improve, and adjusting automatic sprinkler systems. Commercial car washes are recommended for vehicle washing as they use water more efficiently.

*Text Messages About Your "Tax Refund" Are Fake [ [link removed] ]*

Phone scam [ [link removed] ]

Scammers are sending text messages claiming to be from the New Jersey Division of Taxation, saying you have an approved tax refund waiting. These fraudulent texts ask you to reply "Y" and click a link to provide banking information for your "refund deposit."

The "reply Y" request is designed to bypass security features that normally disable suspicious links. Red flags include texts from foreign phone numbers or random email addresses, urgent language about forfeiting funds, and unexpected refund notifications.

*Remember:* New Jersey won't text you about tax refunds or ask for banking details via SMS. Forward suspicious texts to 7726 (your carrier's spam service) and block the sender.
