The impacts of the government shutdown are already being felt far and wide – and unlike the Republican majority in Congress, I’m not turning my back.

Earlier this week, I rallied with AFLCIO along with American Federal of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 2192 and AFSCME. These are frontline workers at the TSA, VA, Social Security Administration, and more.

Our veterans, seniors, and working families will feel the most pain and disruption because of the Republican-led shutdown. Critical services are being interrupted, and thousands will be furloughed or go without pay, all because the GOP won’t come to the table.

This was my message to President Trump and Republicans in Congress: fix your manufactured healthcare crisis and fund the government for the American people.

I stand with the thousands of impacted workers and families during this shutdown, not only as a Member of Congress, but the proud product of a Union family. It’s why I am refusing to be paid during the shutdown – because Congress should play by the same rules as the people they represent.
