** Ballots are out now. VOTE YES on Prop 50 TODAY!
------------------------------------------------------------
It’s time to save democracy. You may already have received your ballot in your mail. Please fill it out and mail it back immediately!
If you live in SF and haven’t gotten your ballot yet, check your voter registration at the SF Elections Voter Portal ([link removed]) .
Don’t delay, vote YES on Prop 50 Today!
For all the information, check out our Vote page ([link removed]) .
The only path out of the ditch we are in is through the 2026 elections. Passing Prop. 50 will give us a fair opportunity to flip the House and take back control of some power. At present we have extremely limited pushback capability. If people don’t turn out for this election, we could lose our golden opportunity to push back on the MAGA gerrymander efforts that aim to rig future elections.
Everything we care about is at stake with this election. But lots of people don’t understand the issues, are undecided, or won’t vote. Canvassing is the most effective thing we can do to communicate with folks and make the difference, which is why Indivisible SF is conducting door-to-door canvassing for Prop 50 every weekend until Tuesday, November 4 (with the exception of No Kings Day 2, because we’ll all be marching!).
Come join us! We’ll train you up and you will be able to canvass with a partner. We meet at Dolores Park and focus on homes in the Mission and Castro Districts. Then we can meet up afterwards to have snacks and share our canvassing experiences.
Join Us Here ([link removed]) .
** We need YOU to sign up to volunteer at No Kings 2.
------------------------------------------------------------
Our second No Kings march will take place on Saturday, October 18th. We’re gathering north of Embarcadero Plaza and then we’ll march to Civic Center Plaza for a rally hosted by our partners at the National Nurses Union.
Wondering how you can help the most? We need more event monitors. You may be assigned to walk with the march until a particular intersection, then stand there for visibility to help keep pedestrians safe. Or, you may be helping professional staff monitoring the rally. It’s a safe role and we’ll train you beforehand. We just need more feet on the streets!
Please sign up to volunteer today ([link removed]) , and ask your friends to sign up.
We’re trying Cryptpad, an alternative form service since some folks have concerns about giving their data to Google. Please let us know if you have any trouble.
If you’re uncomfortable filling out online forms, respond to this email and let us know what you’d like to do (you can consult the form without submitting it) and we’ll add you to the corresponding No Kings 2 volunteer group.
In addition to volunteers, we’ll also need money. We’ll use your donations to bring good sound, good signs, and more to No Kings and future events (protests and other). Please send your donation to our Venmo ([link removed]) or our ActBlue ([link removed]) .
You can also put up flyers. (Be sure to follow DPW’s rules about posting signs ([link removed]) .) You can print your own ([link removed]) at home, or at your library ([link removed]) , or on our website; or, sign up for the volunteer form above so our coordinator can get some to you!
Get more details on our website at [link removed]. And start spreading the word: on Saturday, October 18, we say NO KINGS!
** Judiciary Postcard Initiative: Thank Judges and Lawyers for Standing Up for Democracy
------------------------------------------------------------
An independent judiciary is critical to the defense of a democratic country. Since Congress has abdicated its responsibility to counter the whims of the corrupt executive branch, we need the judiciary to stand up now more than ever. Though it cannot singlehandedly prevent our slide into authoritarianism, it can slow the Administration substantially, and give the public (us) time to organize and shift the discourse.
The justices and lawyers standing up for democracy and the Constitution are under increasing threats, politically – in their careers, and even physically. These threats extend to their families.
These brave professionals need to know that the public is behind them – that their service is critical and that we appreciate them.
Our judiciary campaign is running a postcard campaign to these judges thanking them for their service.

** Tell your Members of Congress: Hold Fast on the Trump Shutdown and Support Furloughed Workers
------------------------------------------------------------
The partial shutdown of the federal government continues with Congress still gridlocked over the Appropriation bills and a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR).
As explained in last week's, "Hold Fast on the Trump Shutdown" ISF newsletter article and Call to Action (CTA) ([link removed]) , the MAGA regime has been steadily shutting down the federal government ever since they took office so that they can slash health care and other domestic safety net programs to fund tax cuts for billionaires.
In recent years, when Congress has allowed federal funding to lapse, federal agencies have furloughed some employees until Congress can come to an agreement on funding those agencies. In the current shutdown, the MAGA regime is not even negotiating a potential agreement to fund government agencies in the fiscal year that began last Wednesday on October 1, and Senate Democrats have continued to vote No on the Republican Continuing Resolution. But this time the MAGA regime has been threatening to fire federal workers, not just furlough them temporarily, and is also threatening to withhold back pay for federal workers who are working without pay during the furlough, despite legislation requiring restitution once the government is funded. In spite of the risk of losing jobs and pay, federal workers and their unions support the Democrats’ stand. In September, federal employee unions joined the 35 unions representing 250,000 public- and private-sector government workers in signing a letter
calling for a “fighting” CR ([link removed]) that addresses administrative overreach.
As we’ve previously stated, it’s time to stop the smoke and mirrors. Voting for spending bills is pointless so long as Congress and the courts allow a wannabe king to unilaterally refuse to spend appropriated funds and to fire federal employees for his partisan purposes and personal vendettas. Our Constitution requires that the government serve the people. For the first time in our history, a power-mad autocrat backed by wealthy oligarchs is defying that principle. Democrats must continue to stand fast in opposition.
Our job is clear. We need to do everything we can to make the MAGA shutdown a public political problem that they have to address.
Tell your Members of Congress to hold fast! ([link removed]) Talk to your friends and family ([link removed]) about who is really responsible for the government shutdown, and tell your contacts in public service that we have their back.
** File a Public Comment against the Federal Voter ID requirement
------------------------------------------------------------
In addition to legislative, policy, financial, and law-enforcement attacks on our democracy, the MAGA regime is committed to undermining our right to vote and aims to disenfranchise certain voter populations.
Their proposal to the Election Assistance Commission ([link removed]) (EAC), submitted by the right-wing America First Legal Foundation, would impose new voter registration ID requirements for people using the National Mail Voter Registration Form. In essence, this rule change would impose requirements similar to the SAVE Act that Democrats blocked in the Senate. We must oppose this effort to disenfranchise voters because there is no empirical proof of voter fraud in any meaningful or significant way that would change any election.
The amendment to federal voter registration rules would mean that a valid government issued proof of citizenship ID would be required when someone registers to vote. It could be a Real ID-compliant driver’s license, passport, some official type of government issued ID if such identification is otherwise accompanied by proof of United States citizenship. For many American citizens, particularly the poor, those in rural areas, and those living in states like California with drivers licenses that do not meet "Real ID" criteria, proof of citizenship IDs are either costly or impossible to obtain.
This rule change targets mail-in voting, a focal point for the Trump administration due to the high percentage of Democrats who vote by mail. It won’t affect people who are already registered to vote, but is meant to keep large numbers of new voters from registering because they would be the ones that have to show specific identification.
Provide your comment ([link removed]) in opposition to this amendment by Monday, October 20, 2025.
** Stand with trans folks. Tell Netflix: Don't Bow to Bullies!
------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to Elon Musk, transgender representation is in the spotlight again. In an era of both accelerating acceptance ([link removed]) of and unprecedented legislative attacks ([link removed]) on trans people, it is vital that the public sees accurate portrayals of trans people—and how to behave around them—and for transgender youth and adults to see hopeful role models in the media.
Elon Musk is leading a bad-faith campaign on social media to pressure Netflix into dropping inclusive content, specifically targeting the GLAAD award-winning and Emmy-nominated show Dead End: Paranormal Park. which centers on the story of Barney, a transgender teen who finds a chosen family.
This is a harassment campaign designed to force Netflix to censor stories with a diverse cast of characters. We need to show Netflix that their subscribers value and support these stories and creators. If you are a subscriber, call to send a clear message that the very content being attacked is a core reason why you stay on the platform as a customer, giving Netflix a business and moral incentive to ignore the pressure.
Contact Netflix and tell them ([link removed]) : Don't Bow to Bullies! Keep Telling Diverse Stories
And read our blog ([link removed]) on why it’s critical to have trans representation in children's television.
