I am an Army National Guard Veteran with 18 years of service. Most of my military career, I worked in an Army band, where I regularly used music as outreach to soldiers and Veterans. As a civilian, I freelanced as a journalist and grant writer until I landed a job with the Social Security Administration.
MDVA offered me an opportunity to partner alongside Veterans in need. In my current role, I supervise a team of advocates who assist Veterans with obtaining Social Security benefits. Most of our clients have disabilities that prevent them from working – a situation that often causes financial hardship and even homelessness. I feel privileged to merge my knowledge of federal benefits with my military experience in such a meaningful way.
For those considering employment with MDVA, know that our mission to serve Veterans appears in every occupation and every work location in our agency. You can’t avoid it, but I wouldn’t want to. I could not ask for a better reason to show up to work every day.
