Reclaim Rent Control has demanded from the start that reauthorization of DC's rent control laws must include improvements. But today, Chairman Mendelson is trying to undermine that in the DC budget.
Act now – right now - to Reclaim Rent Control!
Chairman Mendelson is putting rent control reauthorization in the Budget Support Act. That means, reauthorizing the status quo rent control without debate - with its unaffordable rent increases and displacement loopholes. DC should not be reauthorizing a broken system.
DC is on the edge of an eviction cliff with tenants unable to pay their rent due to years of unsustainable rent increases and the current emergency. The Council needs to strengthen and expand rent control NOW!
The DC Council votes TOMORROW! Take action now to tell the Council to vote to amend the BSA and remove the reauthorization of basic, broken rent control. Strengthening and expanding rent control deserves its own process. The 90,000 families living in DC’s rent controlled housing deserve an opportunity.
