Hi John
We recently had the privilege of chatting with Katie (pictured above), who ran for Womankind Worldwide in this year's TCS London Marathon 2025.
“Running for Womankind is going to be the first step I take on my journey to make a difference.” - Katie, London Marathon runner 2025
In a blog ([link removed]) and video ([link removed]) interview, Katie shared her passion to end violence against women, after overcoming personal challenges.
After 18 years of marriage, things took a turn for the worse in the latter 5 years, and Katie was forced to quietly deal with her ex-husband’s worsening alcoholism. Reflecting that “violence is not always physical” – and can also present as “emotional, financial, or mental” and other forms of abuse – the fear and isolation of this situation grew too much, and Katie found her strength to leave, to build a better life for her and her children.
She was drawn to Womankind’s work of funding, supporting, and advocating for women’s rights globally.
Alongside her marathon training, Katie raised £4,000 in support of Womankind. She encourages us all to ‘use our strengths’ and unique gifts to give back to a cause that we care about.
