Donald Trump’s ongoing government shutdown is devastating for workers, families, and the fight against climate change. Over 750,000 federal workers have been furloughed and Trump is already threatening to deny them back pay when the government reopens.
But he made sure of one thing: permits for fossil fuel projects are still moving full speed ahead. This is a one-two punch to our environment — Trump is cancelling clean energy funding and firing the people who make it possible, all while protecting Big Oil’s profits.
While clean energy programs are being slashed, climate experts are being sent home:
At the CDC, two-thirds of environmental health experts have been furloughed.
At the EPA, scientists and researchers are still on the chopping block.
And at the Department of Energy, Trump has already canceled over $7.5 billion in clean energy projects.
It’s cruel. It’s corrupt. And it’s exactly why we need SEEC Members in Congress: leaders who stand up for science, workers, and our planet.
SEEC PAC is working around the clock to defend these climate champions and elect new ones. Because this isn’t just about one shutdown — it’s about whether we build a clean energy future or let Trump and Big Oil destroy it.
Thanks to your help in 2024, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 119th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
