Friend, the Trump-Republican agenda is unpopular, and Republicans are feeling the heat.
One GOP House Rep in a competitive district says she’ll hold a town hall “when hell freezes over.” She’s not alone.
Republicans across the country are afraid to face their constituents, because they are afraid to face the consequences of their devastating decisions in Washington and the growing authoritarianism of Trump’s administration.
The chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee has even advised fellow GOP members of Congress against hosting town halls after seeing the strong opposition to their cuts to Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, food assistance, and more.
Now with this government shutdown a week underway, the American people are making it clear that they understand who is to blame for the mess we are in:
Working Americans understand that the Republicans are only looking out for themselves and their billionaire donors.
Instead of dodging town halls, maybe Republicans should actually meet their constituents head on and hear the real stories of pain that their policies have created.
Listen to the folks who are struggling to get by as prices rise under Trump’s tariffs. Listen to the Medicaid and ACA recipients who will have to choose between making rent and going to the doctor. Listen to the families who have been attacked and ripped apart by ICE.
There is still time for Republicans to come to the table and negotiate to avoid skyrocketing health care costs.
But they have to have the guts to face the American people and do what’s right for our country.
In solidarity,
Team Markey
