John --

We wanted to make sure you saw the news Phil exposed about his opponents at last week's debate.

Three of Phil’s opponents (all Democrats) are “red-boxing,” which means they are discreetly signaling to super PACs how to support their campaigns through their websites. Phil called them out, and The Washington Wire reported on it here.

Here’s what it looks like:

It’s not just Rep. Doglio -- Rep. Reeves and Mayor Strickland are all encouraging super PAC spending on their behalf in Phil’s race. They’re giving explicit instructions about how super PACs can prop up their campaigns with unlimited out-of-state contributions. If this were done in secret, it would be illegal.

Let’s be clear: It’s totally hypocritical that our Democratic opponents would claim to support campaign finance reform yet are still willing to open the door for dark money super PACs to impact our election. They can’t have it both ways, and they need to be held accountable.

Phil will never put up a red box on his website. Unlike our opponents, we’re not banking on any super PAC support and our campaign is entirely grassroots funded. That’s exactly why we need your help:

Can you chip in $3 to help pressure our opponents to take down their red boxes so we can advance true campaign finance reform?

Phil is committed to raising money from real people. That’s why he is opposed to skirting campaign finance law (while his opponents actually encourage it).

Phil knows from his time on the Hill that members of Congress who have a deep and wide base of grassroots fundraising support from individual donors aren’t beholden to special interests.

Can you kick in a donation today so we can show how Phil sticks to his convictions about grassroots fundraising?

Thanks in advance for anything you can do.

Team Phil

Paid for by Phil Gardner for Congress

Phil Gardner served as the District Director for Congressman Rep. Denny Heck in Washington's 10th District. Now, he's running to replace Denny in order to continue fighting for the people of the South Sound and our shared progressive values. If elected, Phil would make history as Washington state’s first openly LGBT Member of Congress.

To support Phil's campaign, donate here. We'd hate to see you go, but if you can unsubscribe: [link removed] here.
