The Supreme Court has just begun a new term. And once again, our nation’s
most powerful court is poised to give Donald Trump even more power to
trample the freedoms it was built to defend.

For over forty years, People For the American Way has stood guard at the
intersection of law and democracy – shining a light on corruption,
exposing extremism, and holding those in power to account. We have seen
dark moments before. But what we are witnessing now is something far more
dangerous: the systematic capture of the judicial branch by a movement
that does not believe in equality, accountability, or democracy itself.

This Court – Trump’s MAGA Court – has already granted him immunity from
criminal prosecution, dismantled voting rights protections, and sided with
corporate power over human dignity. It has empowered the powerful,
abandoned the marginalized, and turned the promise of justice into a
political weapon.

And the new term that just began could be worse.

They’re hearing cases that could:

* Further dismantle the Voting Rights Act, by claiming that fixing
racial discrimination in elections somehow violates the Constitution —
the exact opposite of what the law was written to do.
* Take the corruption of Citizens United to new extremes, by dismantling
restraints on coordination between candidates and the wealthy donors
and corporations bankrolling them.
* Strike down commonsense gun safety laws, further weakening states’
power to prevent gun violence and protect public safety.
* Sanction state bans on transgender girls in sports, eroding
constitutional guarantees of equal protection under the law.
* Give Trump unchecked control over independent federal agencies,
shredding some of the last guardrails Congress built to prevent any
president from ruling by personal whim.

These are not isolated cases. They are pieces of a larger project – one
that seeks to concentrate power in the hands of a president who already
behaves like a wanna-be king.

But here’s what they didn’t count on: you.

People For’s research and advocacy are how we fight back. Our team tracks
their rulings, including critical shadow docket orders. We research and
report on current lower court judicial nominees as well as harmful
decisions by Trump nominees elevated to seats on the critical courts of
appeals. Our reports are relied upon by Members of Congress and their
staff, by journalists and coalition leaders, by organizers and ordinary
Americans determined to understand what’s happening to their rights – and
to resist it.

When Trump’s MAGA allies try to stack the bench with loyalists, we expose
them. When a federal judge issues an extremist ruling, we make sure the
nation knows what it means – and who it serves. When the Supreme Court
bends the Constitution to Trump’s will, we show the world how far they’ve
fallen from the ideals of justice and equality.
