If this shutdown situation has taught us anything, it’s that Congress is broken. So today, I’d like to highlight my plan to fix it: the Equal Voices Act .
Members of Congress represent a HUGE number of people, and the gap between people and representatives gets wider every year.
Case in point: The average member-to-voter ratio is about 1:770,000. However, some members represent barely 500k people, while others represent more than 900k.
The result? Some Americans have TWICE as much influence in Congress as others.
Here’s the fix I propose in my bill:
1) Add roughly 230 seats to the House
2) Cap the number of people per House district at 500k
3) Create multi-member districts to ensure equal representation
Truth is, fixing our broken system starts with electing leaders who want to tighten the nuts and bolts of our democracy, not take a sledgehammer to it.
That’s why I’m asking if you’ll invest $25 or more to support my reelection so I can continue fighting for reform and building a stronger democracy for all. [[link removed]]
