MyNewsLA SoCal firefighters rescue goat from baaaad situation trapped between giant boulders Firefighters rescued a goat from a baaaad predicament after she took a tumble from the top of her favorite napping rock and found herself trapped in between two minivan-sized boulders. On Friday night, firefighters from Cal Fire San Diego County responded to a call for a goat rescue at a farm in a rural area of Descanso. The task was not simple, given the size and weight of the rocks between which the animal had become tightly pinned. “The goat was very wedged down in there,” said Cal Fire Engineer Jason Robertson. “We weren’t able to free it by just coaxing it out.” Fortunately, the team is trained in specialized search and rescue methods, and was able to use pressurized air bags to create more space between the rocks. “The ones that we were using can lift up to 160,000 pounds,” said Robertson. “So we used that to be able to push the rock just enough to free her a little bit so she could wiggle her way out.” A leash was attached to the goat’s neck and used to pull her forward while a stick was used to gently push her from behind until she was finally able to pop out. Even though the goat tumbled around six feet, she emerged from the ordeal with only a nick on her elbow, Robertson said. Los Angeles Times Local Government News LA Council Will Vote on Outside Monitor for Federal Homeless Lawsuit The Los Angeles City Council is expected Tuesday to vote on a request by the city attorney to hire a “monitor” to track the city’s progress and use of funds under a federal lawsuit settlement requiring 12,915 shelter beds by June 2027 after previously rescheduling the matter twice. Council members rescheduled the vote to Tuesday at the recommendation of City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto. The city attorney has proposed contracting with former City Controller Ron Galperin and data analyst Daniel Garrie to serve jointly as the monitor in the L.A. Alliance case. In June, a federal court judge determined that the city failed to meet its obligations under a settlement agreement with the L.A. Alliance for Human Rights. U.S. District Judge David Carter ordered city officials to provide an updated plan detailing how it will create 12,915 beds for homeless residents within two years. In court documents, Carter wrote that the city has shown “a consistent lack of cooperation and responsiveness — an unwillingness to provide documentation unless compelled by court order or media scrutiny.” MyNewsLA About the LAPPL: Formed in 1923, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) represents more than 8,700 dedicated and professional sworn members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
