*Michigan Gaming Control Board Applauds FY2026 State Budget Aimed at Protecting Michiganders*

DETROIT, Oct. 7, 2025 — Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) Executive Director Henry Williams issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the Fiscal Year 2026 budget bills into law:

“The Michigan Gaming Control Board commends Governor Whitmer and the Legislature for enacting a responsible, forward-looking state budget that prioritizes the safety and well-being of our citizens. This budget reinforces the state’s commitment to protecting Michiganders through strong regulatory oversight, promoting integrity in gaming, and ensuring our agency has the resources needed to uphold public trust.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard consumers, combat illegal gaming, and collaborate with law enforcement and industry partners to maintain fair and secure gambling environments statewide. The investments made through this budget will allow us to continue serving Michigan with transparency, accountability, and vigilance.”

The MGCB plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and economic contribution of Michigan's gaming industry. In 2024, Detroit's commercial casinos reported $1.291 billion in aggregate revenue, generating approximately $104.3 million in state taxes from table games, slots, and retail sports betting. These revenues support the School Aid Fund, which directly benefits Michigan’s students and schools.

Last year also marked strong growth in iGaming and internet sports betting, further strengthening the state’s economy. Michigan's commercial and tribal operators reported total iGaming gross receipts of $2.4 billion and internet sports betting receipts of $460.5 million, for a combined $2.861 billion in gross receipts—a 23.8% increase from the previous year. Adjusted gross receipts reached $2.594 billion, reflecting 22.3% growth. Operators contributed $466.1 million in taxes and fees to the State of Michigan, including $451.4 million from iGaming and $14.7 million from internet sports betting. Of this, $400.7 million was directed to the School Aid Fund via the Internet Gaming Fund and Internet Sports Betting Fund.
