Since they took office, the Trump Administration has targeted health care and key programs for millions of people, as well as the workers who keep essential government services running.

Now, the administration is turning up the chaos and suffering by pushing the government into a shutdown. Working families can’t afford to have health insurance costs more than double. Call leaders in Congress and tell them to fund the government and stop the looming healthcare crisis.

Because of Trump's shutdown, nearly 750,000 federal workers nationwide will be locked out, put on leave, or forced to work without pay. The administration has also threatened to illegally fire thousands of workers during a shutdown, a threat which AFGE President Everett Kelley said “is not only illegal — it’s just plain wrong.”

Threats to federal workers are only one part of how Trump's shutdown will hurt communities in our region. In addition, nearly 180 million Americans are facing a spike in health care costs because of this shutdown—a crisis of the administration’s own making.

Call your members of Congress and tell them to stop the Trump shutdown, fund the government, fix the health care crisis, and put working people first.

DDOT makes surprise plan to sunset DC Streetcar early

Last week ATU Local 689 learned that DDOT has told RATP Dev to start winding down DC Streetcar service years before it was set to phase out.

"We won’t stand for taking away transit from working Washingtonians and mass layoffs of dedicated transit workers," Local 689 said on social media. "It’s time to tell Mayor Bowser and DC Council NO EARLY SHUTDOWN of DC Streetcar."

CSA's Holiday Basket Program now open

The Community Services Agency (CSA)'s 2025 Holiday Baskets program is now open! Every year in November and December, CSA provides holiday baskets to families who could use a little extra support. Now in its third decade, the annual Holiday Basket Program is designed to make a family’s holiday season a little bit brighter.
