Dear John,
For nearly two decades, Polaris helped operate a trusted national lifeline for trafficking victims and survivors — an effort sparked by a powerful request from a survivor, strengthened through partnerships with survivors and service providers, and funded by HHS's Office on Trafficking in Persons.
But our work has never been limited to responding to calls. It's always been about listening closely, acting with purpose, and building real-world solutions to protect people from harm.
Listening to survivors also led to Polaris's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) — a forward-thinking program that follows the money to detect and disrupt trafficking operations before they grow.
Survivors challenged us to find more effective ways to pursue justice, especially methods that wouldn't require them to relive trauma in court. Today, the FIU works hand-in-hand with financial institutions, tech companies, and law enforcement to expose traffickers through financial patterns — and to help survivors recover the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
