The Pentagon has issued new rules demanding that journalists secure prior approval before reporting—even on unclassified information—and sign a pledge or risk losing credentials.
This is an immediate, dangerous escalation of government control over the press, meant to silence independent reporting critical of the Trump administration and censor information available to the public regarding national security. We cannot allow Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, or other federal officials to roll back press freedom protected under the First Amendment.
Americans deserve transparency made possible through independent reporting. Editors and executives must publicly refuse these restrictions, decline to sign any pledge that conditions access on prior restraint, and coordinate a unified response to protect journalistic integrity. We will not allow this administration to violate our constitutional right to freedom of the press.
