VIDEO OF THE DAY: "Absolutely disgusted" Marjorie Taylor Greene wallops Trump and the GOP over refusal to budge on health insurance subsidies
Marjorie Taylor Greene admittedly gets very few things right in the public sphere, and her mere presence in the House of Representatives is a troubling, daily reminder of just how far the state of American politics has devolved in the age of MAGA, but damned if the QAnon dolt hasn't hit a few nails squarely on the head in recent months. First with the Epstein files, and now with the GOP's destructive and utterly pointless shutdown logic. Greene obviously gets a whole lot of the details wrong, but she at least knows this to be true: if Republicans let healthcare subsidies expire later this year, premiums will spike, spelling economic catastrophe for millions of Americans, in both red and blue states alike.
Trump says "there’s no reason to be good" — except to get into heaven
Speaking at the White House on Monday, the MAGA cult leader gave reporters a morally bankrupt, theological hot take that sounds exactly as transactional as the con man himself: "You know, there’s no reason to be good. I wanna be good because you wanna prove to God you're good so you go to that next step, right?" Of all the Trumpy things the nincompoop-in-chief has said, this just might be the Trumpiest — and a rare moment of honesty from a man famously allergic to telling the truth.
White House memo claims furloughed workers aren't owed back pay
When they tell us — the American people — out loud, repeatedly, just how little they care about our well-being, we should probably take them at their word.

GOP rep accuses Speaker Mike Johnson of blocking release of Epstein files
Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has become something of a prickly thorn in the side of House Speaker Mike Johnson, refusing to fall in line to shield Donald Trump and other, um, Very Important Pedophile-adjacent People from imminent reckoning. Massie took to nüTwitter yesterday and did not mince his words: "Contrary to what he says, @SpeakerJohnson is doing everything he can, including delaying the swearing in of the most recently elected member of Congress and spreading misinformation about the legislation, to block a vote in Congress on legislation to release the Epstein files." Johnson, a very pious Christian man who is also curiously comfortable constantly lying his ass off, laughably claimed on MSNBC that he wants "every page of [the Epstein files] out." Gee, if only there were a way for the speaker of the frickin' House to make that happen!

One of Trump's favorite White House reporters denies Moon landings
Brian Glenn, a Real America’s Voice host often touted by America's wannabe dictator as one of his favorite reporters, tweeted, "We didn't land on the moon. Have a nice night," echoing a fringe conspiracy theory that has been debunked for decades. Glenn also happens to be the boyfriend of Republican Rep. and QAnon dolt Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has fired her own fair share of conspiracy cannonballs into the ether over the years. What a pair!
27 police officers among those injured by federal agents firing tear gas during weekend protest, Chicago police chief says
It must be so hard for the MAGA crowd to know exactly which "blue" to "back" when actual cops are targeted by ICE goons cosplaying as real cops. We're so far off-script at this point we have the chief of police in one of America's largest cities openly disputing lies put forward by the Trump regime. During an encounter with protesters on Saturday — which escalated after an ICE agent shot a woman in Brighton Park — Border Patrol officials called police for assistance with crowd control. In a bullshit post on social media shortly after, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin said, "Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department … refuse[d] to assist us in securing the area." Firstly, Pritzker is the governor of Illinois and has zero jurisdictional control over the Chicago PD. Secondly, nope! Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling flatly refuted the Trump regime's bogus claim, citing more than two dozen Chicago police officers who were literally injured — on the scene — when ICE agents indiscriminately fired tear gas into the crowd. Snelling also confirmed that Chicago PD responded within four minutes of the call. Why is the Trump administration publicly denigrating America's first responders? And where's the outrage from all the "Thin Blue Line" red hats?

Trump threatens to invoke Insurrection Act
The wannabe dictator has quite clearly been coached by enthusiastic fascists in his administration to use very specific language when talking about overwhelmingly peaceful anti-ICE protests taking place across the country. Much to Donald's chagrin, a president cannot simply sic federal troops on protesting Americans with whom he disagrees. If, on the other hand, they were fomenting an insurrection, well then, all bets would be off. And so, you have gobbledygook statements like this coming from the MAGA cult leader: "We have an insurrection act for a reason. If I had to enact it I would do that. If people were being killed and courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up, sure I would do that." Notice the curious pivot from people "being killed" to courts and governors and mayors simply following the letter of the law and "holding them up?" Folks, if we let the likes of Donald Trump and Stephen Miller define acts of "insurrection," simply reading this newsletter could very well get you into trouble...
Ex-special counsel John Durham undercut case against James Comey in interview with prosecutors
John Durham, the former special counsel who spent nearly four years examining the origins of the FBI investigation into Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and its alleged ties to Russia, told federal prosecutors investigating James Comey that he was unable to uncover evidence that would support false statements or obstruction charges against the former FBI director, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. Federal prosecutors in Virginia met remotely with Durham in August to understand the findings of his investigation, according to sources familiar with the meeting, and his conclusions raise the prospect that Durham — who was once elevated by Trump and other Republicans believing he would prosecute high-level officials involved with the investigation of the MAGA cult leader's 2016 campaign — could now become a key figure aiding Comey's defense.
Trump leaves door open on pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell after Supreme Court denies her request to review
While the conservative-stacked high court declined to review convicted sex-trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell's criminal convictions, the Jeffrey Epstein accomplice has one card left to play: a pardon from her late boyfriend's old chum, Donald Trump. Speaking on the same day the Supreme Court slammed its door shut in Maxwell's face, America's wannabe dictator had this utterly preposterous thing to say on the matter: "I haven't heard the name (Ghislaine Maxwell) in so long. I can say this, that I'd have to take a look at [a pardon]. I would have to take a look. I will speak to the DOJ." Gee, why on earth might Donald be willing to pardon an old friend and convicted sex trafficker with nothing to gain from keeping all her secrets to herself while wasting away for decades in prison?
