Friend, last week, Mayor Stoney ordered the immediate removal of all of Richmond's city-owned Confederate statues. Not only are these statues a public safety hazard, they represent a bygone era of division, racism, and hate.
Richmond is no longer the capital of the Confederacy, and Mayor Stoney agrees the statues have been up 100 years too long. But President Trump announced this weekend that he will "protect" Confederate statues. When our country needs unity and leadership more than ever before, the president would rather continue acting as Divider-In-Chief.
The Mayor will face any attack thrown his way as he continues to fulfill his promise to the people of Richmond. But listen — the GOP has already started volleying attacks at the Mayor because they know he's fighting for the people.
