Right now, we’re sending hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress demanding they negotiate a bipartisan bill that addresses our health care crisis and holds the Trump administration accountable.¹ But as we demand action, House Republicans are in the midst of an extended recess, playing games with people’s lives while trying to force Democrats to simply agree to their terms: just open the government while doing nothing to rein in despotic acts that cancel funding Congress has enacted and ignore the crisis of skyrocketing health insurance premiums.²

But let’s remember that after Democrats agreed to keep the government running back in March, Trump then turned around and began freezing $410 billion in congressionally appropriated funds. Meaning that a government funding bill with no guardrails is nothing more than a blank check for Trump’s authoritarian agenda―including troops in our streets and ICE detention camps where our human rights and right to due process are being violated.
