Malliotakis Dear Neighbor, In case you missed it: last week, the Department of Homeland Security was close to cutting $187 million from the NYPD’s counterterrorism initiatives after it reconfigured its grant formula in a way that would have redistributed the funds to other police departments in the country. This was unacceptable. New York remains the nation’s top terror target and the brave men and women of the NYPD who serve our city with honor need these funds for intelligence gathering, bomb squad operations, surveillance cameras, officer training, and specialized equipment. Upon learning about the cuts, I spoke directly with President Trump, and within 48 hours, he intervened and this critical funding was fully restored. This is exactly why I’ll never stop fighting to protect New Yorkers and make sure our law enforcement has the resources they need to keep our city safe. The Republican congresswoman representing Staten Island credited President Trump for intervening and reversing the cuts. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a prepared statement.
