PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

Pride month might be over, but our beautiful #YouAreMyPride video--created in partnership with Wear Your Voice--is now running across broadcast TV! Perhaps you've seen it on CNN, TNT, TBS or on Cartoon Network? If you still haven't seen it, watch it now and please continue to share it on social media using the hashtag.

We have lots of ways to connect this week, through our pillars of Support, Education, and Advocacy; check them out below!

PFLAG Connects

Support

PFLAG Connects meetings continue to build momentum

Nearly 150 chapters across the country are now meeting online, via PFLAG Connects. If you've yet to join a meeting--or if your local chapter isn't currently participating--consider joining another chapter in one of their meetings!

Visit pflag.org/connect to learn more about the program, then reach out to our Chapter Engagement team to connect with a PFLAG Connect meeting.

We also encourage you to find and reach out to your local chapter, and ask them to consider participating in the PFLAG Connects platform. We're happy to help them get started.

Education

Three steps to being...a better educator of LGBTQ+ history

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean your learning should slow down! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Check out pflag.org/lgbthistory which includes websites, films, books, and other resources that will help you learn more about LGBTQ+ history, no matter where you are on your learning journey.
  2. Watch: PFLAG Academy On-Demand includes multiple sessions for those who would like to learn more about LGBTQ+ history and culture in the United States including Don't Know Much About LGBTQ History?: The Ultimate LGBTQ History and Culture Extravaganza and When LGBTQ Past and Present Collide! How LGBTQ History Can Illuminate Today’s Challenges.
  3. Share: Use social media to elevate the more than 400 LGBTQ+ icons that have been featured at lgbthistorymonth.com, and get ready to promote LGBTQ+ History month this October.

Advocacy

I'm voting because...

As a part of our June 30 PFLAG Academy Online session -- PFLAG Votes 2020: Our Right and Our Responsibility [now available on demand] -- we asked participants to submit and post photos of themselves with our new "I'm voting because..." cards. It's a highly visible and shareable way to not only encourage people to vote but also make a plan for how they will accomplish that task. Ready to take part?

Step 1: Download your "I'm voting because..." card (PDF)

Step 2: Complete your card with one of the (501(c)3-compliant, nonpartisan) reasons you plan to vote.

Step 3: Get creative: Take a picture with your filled out card!

Step 4: Send your completed cards to [email protected] or post to your personal social media, and don't forget your hashtags. Try

  • #PFLAGvotes;
  • #PFLAGproud; or
  • #EqualityStartsWithMe.
