Trump’s authoritarianism is intensifying, and so is the energy in the streets to declare in America: We have No Kings. RSVP to a peaceful protest near you on October 18 now.
Over the weekend, the Trump administration forced the deployment of California’s National Guard to Oregon and authorized Illinois National Guard troops to be sent to Chicago. All against all three governors’ wills.1
In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom described the deployment as “a breathtaking abuse of the law and power.”2 And Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois said, “We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion.”3
And they are right. Trump is acting as if he were a king, not a president elected to serve the people.
That’s why the No Kings protests on October 18 are so important. Millions of people across the country will peacefully and nonviolently come together to send a huge message to Trump that the power belongs to the people and we won’t back down as he strips away our freedoms.
No Kings is less than two weeks away. Will you find an event in your community and RSVP now to join this massive day of action? And if you’ve already RSVP’d, can you forward this email to a few friends to invite them to join you?
This No Kings action is set to be even larger than the first, which was already a historic event. As the Trump administration continues to weaponize the federal government, abuse power, erode our rights, and compromise our well-being, more and more people are becoming fed up. This is an opportunity to bring together the masses, including people who are joining us for the first time, to demonstrate broad opposition to Trump’s extreme agenda that threatens us all.
Authoritarian leaders do everything they can to instill fear and stifle dissent. They want us to be disempowered and cowering. While too many corporations and institutions have done just that out of fear of retribution, we the people must not. We have too much to lose and everything to gain by coming together in huge numbers to show that we are not backing down.
And our pushback is working. From Disney reinstating Jimmy Kimmel to communities forcing out ICE agents attempting to kidnap residents, we’re seeing peaceful resistance make an impact.
It’s clear that Trump is only interested in serving himself and his billionaire buddies and acting to score cheap political points while making no progress to better our lives. He’d rather keep the government shut down for an indefinite period than restore health care to millions of Americans. That shows us everything we need to know about where his interests lay.
We hope you can join your community and millions of people across the country on October 18 for No Kings. Together we are powerful!
