This week marks the two-year anniversary of the October 7th Massacre. As this is being written, Israeli and American officials are in Egypt to participate in negotiations with senior Hamas terrorists. We are hopeful that the war can finally come to an end, but we are not so naïve as to think anything is done until the last hostage is home.
**“Hold Your Breath”**
This week, CUFI will host a gathering of Christian leaders and influencers in Washington to commemorate the October 7th massacre. Likewise, CUFI Action Fund Chairwoman Sandra Hagee Parker will be addressing an event hosted by the Hostages Families and Survivors Forum in DC.
As we discussed around the office how to prepare for the coming week, one colleague summed things up perfectly; “Hold your breath.”
Hamas’s response to President Trump’s peace plan did not inspire a great deal of confidence. The terrorist group did not agree to disarm or to hand over control of Gaza and is demanding Israel release numerous individuals convicted of murdering multiple (in some cases dozens) of people - even October 7th rapists and killers.
We hold our breath as we await word of what happens when a civilized democracy is compelled to negotiate with a bloodthirsty death cult. The IDF has shifted from offensive to defensive operations in Gaza in order to quite literally give peace a chance, but Hamas abhors peace.
The simple truth is that if any of the values that drive Americans and Israelis resonated with Hamas and its supporters throughout Gaza, we wouldn’t be here to begin with. They understand Israeli tanks conquering Hamas strongholds and Israeli planes destroying terrorist rockets – that we know, and that is all we can count on.
**Bloodstained Royal Robes**
No, this doesn’t imply a superior value system; it outright states it, but just in case: yes, we do think our value system is better than that of Hamas. We think it's superior to that of the morally bankrupt, geo-political prostitutes that run Qatar as well.
Speaking of the country that helped start the fire and now wants a gold star for finally working to (somewhat) put it out, some analysts have noticed a shift recently in Al Jazeera’s coverage that denotes a change in tone.
Basically, Al Jazeera, Qatar’s flagship propaganda entity, seems to be lessening the level of anti-American/British/Israeli/Jewish/Christian/etc. incitement that has been the hallmark of Al Jazeera’s “reporting” (if we can so abuse the term) since it was first founded by the Qatari government (which still pays the salaries over there).
This comes on the heels of the Trump Administration agreeing to “guarantee the security and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar against external attack.”
Thus, ostensibly, the guarantee Qatar needed to actually put the pressure on Hamas was an assurance that Israel would not attack the Arab monarchy again. They didn’t need that before because Qatar, in their arrogance, never dreamed Israel would punch them in the gut. But that’s what Jerusalem did. As such, Israel’s decision to attack Hamas’s leadership in Qatar appears to have been just the thing to impact Doha’s thinking.
Even beyond the present moment, this matters a great deal. Without Al Jazeera, the level of hatred towards Israel and the Jewish people worldwide would be considerably decreased. From Iraq to Egypt and from India to the United Kingdom, Al Jazeera is a news staple for hundreds of millions around the world – and yet, it does not report the news.
As Al Jazeera incites hatred, which inevitably leads to violence, even a small change in their coverage could save lives.
**Cutal al yehud – Arabic: “Slaughter the Jews”**
And that violence does not only take place in the Middle East.
On Thursday, as Jews around the world commemorated Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, 35-year-old Syrian-born Jihad Al-Shamie (may his memory be erased) attacked Jewish worshippers outside a synagogue in Manchester, U.K. Two people died, and three more were injured.
First, our hearts go out to the Jewish community of the United Kingdom and worldwide. CUFI UK immediately reached out to their Jewish communal partners upon learning of the attack. Moreover, a CUFI leadership delegation was in London just last month, where we had the opportunity to meet with a number of leaders from the British Jewish community. Tragically and predictably, our conversation focused in large part on the detestable state of antisemitism in Britain today.
Part of the problem is that Jihad Al-Samie came to the UK as a teen and clearly didn’t do well there, as he was out on bail for rape when he committed the terror attack. Immigration without positive assimilation has changed the character of Europe. That, combined with Al Jazeera and the entire cartel of anti-Israel “media” and “humanitarian” organizations, has led to significant population groups in Europe exhibiting rife Jew hatred.
This wave of antisemitism has many consequences. Sometimes this leads to a Prime Minister appeasing domestic Jew haters and rewarding 10/7 terrorists by recognizing “Palestine,” and sometimes it results in a terror attack outside a synagogue on Yom Kippur.
Either way, when the Gaza war ends, there will still be an Arab Israeli conflict, and that won’t change until Al Jazeera and all the rest stop appealing to those singing c
**utal al yehud.** But on that item, we won’t be holding our breath.
