Last week, the federal government shut down because of Republicans like Elise Stefanik.

Instead of working alongside Democrats to keep the government open, Stefanik and Washington Republicans chose to prioritize their political agenda over lowering costs and protecting healthcare for families across the North Country.

Now, healthcare is at risk, extreme tariffs continue to harm our farm workers, federal employees are being furloughed, and many benefits that our friends and neighbors rely on may lapse.

New Yorkers are already struggling to make ends meet, and our own representatives are only making things worse. This shouldn’t be political; it’s just common sense.
