Friend,

Right now, the National Park Service is asking the public how to improve visitor services across our parks -- but has only given us until October 9 to weigh in. At the same time, parks are being severely affected by the government shutdown—operating with minimal staff and facing funding shortfalls that weaken their ability to protect and serve the public.

National Parks are among our country’s greatest treasures -- places where people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can connect with nature, history, and one another. If thousands of us weigh in now, we can demand stronger protections, more resources, and a park system that truly welcomes everyone.

This is our chance to speak up and ensure parks remain welcoming, sustainable, and well-resourced for generations to come!

Here’s what’s at stake:
- Honest history and education: Parks should tell the full story of our nation, not censor it.
- Accessibility for all: From adaptive equipment to expanded shuttles and multilingual programs, everyone deserves a fair chance to experience these lands.
- Youth and veterans programs: Parks must continue to inspire the next generation of stewards and provide healing opportunities for veterans and military families.
- A strong workforce: Without park rangers, interpreters, and staff, visitor centers close, programs disappear, and safety is compromised.
- Sustainability and resilience: From cutting plastic waste to preparing for extreme weather, parks need to be built for the future.

Your voice can make a difference. A 30-day comment period is far too short, but together, we can ensure these shared spaces remain inspiring, accessible, and protected for generations to come.

Thank you for speaking up!

In Solidarity,

Gerry Seavo James
