Dear Friend,

“The cruel Republican budget reconciliation bill will hurt me and my
family in many ways. My husband and I live in a rural town where we are
fortunate to have a small hospital. Over the last decade, the services the
hospital provides have decreased. With the passage of the bill, this
hospital will close. The next nearest hospital is over an hour’s drive.” -
Laurie, Michigan mom

Everyone should have access to health care when they need it. But Trump
and Republicans in Congress have shut down the government instead of
fixing the health care crisis they created—and it’s putting whole
communities’ access to health care at serious risk!

[ [link removed] ]→ There's a lot of misinformation about the shutdown. Here's what's
really happening:

* Trump and Republicans in Congress have shut down the government
because Democrats refuse to further defund health insurance. In fact,
instead of negotiating with Democrats to fix our growing health care
crisis, save hospitals from closing, and protect life-saving programs,
Republicans—who control the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate, and the Oval
Office—have shut the government down.

* This is a big deal. When Republicans cut $1 trillion from health care
earlier this year, they ripped coverage from over 15 million people
and increased health care costs for millions more Americans. [1] As a
result, hospitals, maternity wards, and other health care facilities
across the nation, in both urban and especially rural areas, are
losing critical funds and shuttering their doors. [2] These cuts
especially put women’s lives at risk and will disproportionately
impact Black, Brown, Indigenous, and rural communities. [ [link removed] ]

* Now, an additional 24 million people who buy health coverage through
the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace are at risk of seeing their
health premiums soar on average by 75%—and a 90% increase in many
rural areas—when the enhanced tax credits expire at the end of 2025,
IF Republicans keep standing in the way. [ [link removed] ] This will also cause at
least 4 million more people to lose coverage and put an even greater
strain on our hospital systems. [ [link removed] ]

credits permanent and roll back the cuts that will cause hundreds of rural
hospitals to close and hurt rural families! *When you click, you’ll

Rural hospitals were already in crisis—overrun, laying off workers,
cutting services, or closing their doors for good. Over the last decade,
more than 100 rural hospitals have shut down. [ [link removed] ] These closures leave
sick people, seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant people, and
cancer patients with no choice but to wait longer and travel further to
receive care.

In addition to decreasing access to care and worsening health outcomes,
hospital closures hurt local economies. Hospitals create jobs, employing
an average of 10 percent of employees in rural counties. [ [link removed] ] Not only
that, but rural hospitals sustain jobs outside of the health care field,
enabling people and families to live in rural communities that are home to
essential sectors like food and energy production. [ [link removed] ]

[4]Add your name! Republican leaders in Congress must take meaningful
action to protect hospitals across the nation. Don’t forget to sign on!

Dear Member of Congress,

Access to affordable health care polls sky high across people of all
political parties in every state—and has long been a priority for our
nation. But the $1 trillion health care cut made in the budget bill passed
this summer will rip coverage from 15 million Americans and close over 300
hospitals, especially in rural areas. In addition, allowing the Affordable
Care Act (ACA) tax credits to expire will put 24 million people at risk of
health premiums soaring on average by 75%—and a 90% increase in many rural
areas! Rural hospitals in the U.S. are already struggling—overrun, laying
off workers, cutting services, or closing their doors. The cuts to
Medicaid and the ACA will further exacerbate a worsening crisis.

Over the last decade, more than 100 rural hospitals have shut down,
preventing millions of Americans who live in those communities from
accessing emergency and preventive care. These closures leave sick people,
seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant people, and cancer patients
with no choice but to wait longer and travel further to receive care.

These cuts will also devastate rural economies. Rural hospitals employ an
average of 10 percent of employees in rural counties and sustain jobs
outside of the health care field, enabling people and families to live in
rural communities that are home to essential sectors like food and energy
production.

We urge you to fix the health care crisis and reopen the federal
government! Reverse the cuts that will cause millions of Americans to lose
insurance and hundreds of hospitals to close; and, importantly, make the
ACA tax credits permanent.
