The Weekly Bird Word

10/06/25

This week’s Bird Word is:
Migration

Migration refers to the seasonal movement of birds from one region to another. Here in northern Virginia, we are in the middle of fall migration season with more than 160 million birds migrating south through our area. Birds like the Common Yellowthroat, Connecticut Warbler and the Prairie Warbler (among so many others) pass through northern Virginia and face a host of threats along the way during their largely nocturnal flights, including building collisions and disorientation from exterior lighting. Help protect these intrepid travelers as they make their way south with these tips from our Bird Safe NoVA team.
