Dear Democrats,

In last week’s special session, state Democrats stepped up for New Mexicans where national Republicans failed, protecting healthcare, food assistance, and vaccine access for children, while improving public safety. While Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ directly attacks healthcare and other critical services, particularly in rural New Mexico, years of responsible budgeting with year-over-year record revenues have enabled state Democrats to help New Mexicans when our people need it the most - and our Democratic leaders rose to the occasion and delivered.

In just two days, Democrats in our state legislature showed what public service is supposed to look like – using elected office to help people and improve lives in real, meaningful ways. Donald Trump and congressional Republicans should take note.

The Democratic Party of NM is proud of our elected leaders for stepping up with the special session and policies like free universal childcare. This underscores why it’s so important we keep electing Democrats - up and down the ballot. The Democratic Party of New Mexico could not be more proud of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for proactively calling this special session and both chambers of our legislature for protecting New Mexicans while national Republicans betray every American who isn’t a billionaire. With policies like free universal childcare and free college and vocational education, New Mexico Democrats are leading the way in policies that put workers and families first.

Meanwhile, national Republicans’ refusal to extend Affordable Care Act premium tax credits is keeping the government shut down and could cause roughly 100,000 New Mexicans to lose their coverage. In addition to the cuts to healthcare and food assistance of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” an abysmal job market, and soaring prices from tariffs, Trump and Republicans are determined to make life worse for Americans by keeping the government shut down, causing many to miss their paychecks. 

Unlike Republicans, DPNM isn’t beholden to special interests and we don’t accept oil and gas money. If New Mexico Democrats fall short in upcoming elections, there could be national consequences Democrats could never recover from. Please, stand with us today.
