"The pandemic has laid bare how corporations treat employees not as essential to their success but as a cost to be minimized. One grocery store worker in Ohio told me recently, 'I don't feel essential. I feel expendable.'"

Recently, corporations have made a show of thanking the frontline workers who are keeping our country going during this health crisis with big-budget TV ads. But too often, that's where it begins and ends.
Instead of investing in the workers who make these corporations' profits possible, corporations underpay them and overlook them. Corporations need to go beyond PR campaigns and recognize the dignity of their workers with living wages, paid sick leave, safety protections on the job, and retirement benefits.
